MEET WHERE THE CONTINENTS MEET !

Istanbul is the only city in the world  astride

two continents;Europe and Asia.

It has continuously been a metropolis for

2600 years, longer than any other city in the world.

So there is much to live and there is much to love!

THE BOSPHORUS

The beautiful 19 mile strait seperates Europe

from Asia and connects the Black Sea and the Marmara

Sea makes Istanbul  the most picturesque city in the

world. The two bridges over the Bosphorous show you

the modern side of the city as it is a combination of the old and new...

THE WALLS OF ISTANBUL

Old Istanbul was built on a peninsula.

Between 650 B.C and 450 AD, various kings and emperors

reinforced  city defences by bulding high walls around

the inhabited areas. These walls are 14 kilometers long

and they played a very important role in many sieges

and battles.

SAINT SOPHIA

It is one of the greatest temples ever built. It was first buit in 347 AD.However,

the great dome collapsed during an earthquake in 557 and was rebuilt on a

smaller scale. In 1571 supporting buttresses were added by the famous Ottoman

Architect Sinan.St.Sophia was used as a mosque until 1935 and then it was

converted in  to a museum.

DOLMABAHCE PALACE

One of Istanbul’s most impressive buildings,it

was built in 1853.The walls are full of paintings

of foreign and Turkish artists.Mustafa Kemal Atatürk,

the founder of Modern Turkey, passed away in room 71 of

this palace on November 10,1938

THE COVERED BAZAAR

It is one of the most fascinating and irresistable

attractions of Istanbul. There are streets of oriental

merchants,goldsmiths,jewelers,furniture dealers

and craftsmen of many other trades.
